* Legal Loophole : The law has been unable to keep up with online crimes. It is relatively difficult to track, identify, and prove the crime and the identity of the criminal.

Types of E-commerce Frauds

* Misleading Product Listing : In the case of e-commerce, the customers cannot touch the product which they are buying. The decision is based on viewing the pictures and the videos of the product. The buyers read descriptions that may give a little or inaccurate account of the product.

* Selling Counterfeit Products : Some sellers may utilise third-party suppliers, drop shipping, and ship stolen or refurbished goods.

* Unfriendly Return Policy : Some sellers include No-refund, No-return, or As-is clause in fine print that prevents buyers from obtaining a refund or exchange for defeated or unsuitable items.

* Fraudulent Payment : These are the payments made using stolen credit cards or bank account information.

* Charity Fraud : It is a type of online scam where the victim willingly gives the money under false pretence. The criminal appeals to your sense of righteousness, by posing as a representative of a charitable organisation dedicated to an important cause like cancer or AIDS research.

Ways to Prevent E-commerce Fraud

* Shop Securely : Always use secured Internet connetion and not a public Wi-Fi while purchasing something.

* Update Antivirus Software : Keep your antivirus software up-to-date to protect yourself from spyware, adware, malware.

* Purchase only from Secured E-Commerce Merchants : Ensure the e-commerce website uses encryption protocol certificates like TLS and SSL. Check that the lock icon is present in the address bar, and the URL has an 'https', before entering payment details into any website.

* Keep it Online : Never give personal and credit cards' details over the phone. If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be an e-commerce merchant you have recently ordered from, ask for a callback number and call them back to make sure that it is a genuine call.

* Read the Website's Refund Policy : A good and secured e-commerce will have a clear and an easy to understand refund and return policy. However, some retailers have noncustomer friendly policies hidden in the fine print. Make a diligent effort to learn about the merchant's background, policies, and customer reviews.

* Check the Grammar : Look for grammatical errors because phishing websites often have grammatical errors in their text.

* Do a Background Check on the Charity Organisations : Ensure the authencity and the history of the charity organisation before makicharitable contributions.
