You have learnt that temperature decreases as altitude increases.Hence,hills and mountainds will have lower temperature than location on the plain.Therefore,relief or altitude of a region influences the climate of the area.You would have heard about heard about several hill Shimla,Gulmarg,Naitital and Darjeeling as places the peak summer months.Similarly,Kodaikanal and Udagamandalam (Ooty)have cooler climate compared to places near the coast.

4.Upper atmospheric circulation

In the noethern hemisphere,subtropical high pressure belt gives rise to permanent winds.Thay blow toward the west and are called trade winds.The German word 'trade' means 'track' and stand for blowing steadily in the same direction and in a constant course. The climate of in india is also affected by the movement of upper air currents knows as 'jet strems'.above 12,000m.The speed varies from about 110km/h insummer to about 184km/h in winter.Jet strems develops at about 25°N latitude.This cooling effect of the easterly jet stream causes rain from clouds already found over this latitude (25°N).
